We did it!

Well finally after months of waiting and waiting, we got the kiln up and running!  I fired my first 4 pieces which came out beautifully.  She didn't fire right up to the highest temperature, but enough to fire the sculptures I'd put in.  We have taken a look at her, well I say we, my fiance Jools has taken a look at her, as he's the engineer, and he says whoever did her elements last, only did one set, so they both need replacing.  He's also repairing her lid and painting it for me with Hammerite heat resist paint, so she will look lovely and pretty again.

Merry Christmas....

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and they get to enjoy a wonderful if not tipsy New Year.  Its a quiet year for us this year, after my operation, I have to be very careful with my only kidney, so large amounts of alcohol are no longer possible, plus every year since I can remember I've been out and about on Christmas day, visiting family and friends, handing over presents, before getting home and letting our daughter finally get to the rest of her presents, so after she came here for Christmas dinner last year (it was her first year in her new home) this year we decided to shut the doors, close the blinds and have a very quiet Christmas with ourselves and the dogs and we have had a lovely time too.

The Lights Are Up...

...and its getting closer to Christmas everyday.  Most have finished sculpting now and put away their tools for the year, along with their kilns, but not me.  I wanted to keep going for as long as I can, and as there's only myself, the husband and 3 dogs over Christmas Day, and UK tv is appalling, I'll probably end up in here, unless of course I get some amazing Christmas gift that I spend all day with. A new sculpting book? sculpting tools? a bigger kiln 😂 (in my dreams), I actually have no idea what I'm getting this year, so it will be a huge surprise all round, the husband got a new very large, on wheels, toolbox for his garage/workshop, which he already has as there was no way of hiding it from him, as he was the only one who could move it, however he does have a few other items, half a dozen or more that he doesn't know about, which is always great, I love to surprise him at Christmas as he spends the whole year looking after me and my needs.

Hard work....

When I started my journey into sculpting, I knew one of my biggest challenges, no sorry, it was my biggest challenge, was to get my own kiln. Being disabled, and trying to travel out to use other peoples kilns just wasn't an option as there firstly wasn't anything that was close enough to myself, but also the challenge of trying to move delicate sculptures, whilst in my wheelchair, plus find a place that had a wheelchair friendly set up was quite the logistical nightmare, my only other option was to put up a GoFundMe post and keep my fingers crossed that I had enough support for people to donate.  Thankfully even though I'd not sculpted anywhere near the amount of sculptures nor was my sculpting at the level of quality that it is now, however I had enough support to be able to get myself a little second-hand kiln with some furniture, which was a godsend as I had nothing at all to put inside a kiln for firing.
