Before the Sculpting
Before discovering her passion for sculpture, Dee’s artistic journey began with painting and drawing wildlife and amphibians, capturing their character, beauty and spirit through pencil, coloured pencil, acrylics and her favourite pre-sculpture medium, soft pastels.
Her eye for detail and expressive style brought her artwork to the attention of others and helped shape the artistic approach she carries into her sculpture today. That same love of colour, texture and fine detail eventually inspired her distinctive technique of hand-painting her fired sculptures, bringing an additional layer of character and individuality to each piece.

Brushes Await
Although Dee’s creative journey is currently taking her deeper into the world of animal sculpture, her love of painting and drawing remains very much alive. Long before she began sculpting, brushes, pencils and soft pastels were her way of exploring the beauty of the natural world, capturing the character of animals and expressing ideas through colour, texture and form.
Today, with sculptures to create, commissions to complete and new ideas continually taking shape, finding time to return to her paints can be a challenge. But the desire to paint has never disappeared. Whether her next piece features wildlife, much-loved animals or the more intimate and expressive beauty of the human form, there are still plenty of ideas waiting patiently for their turn.
For now, the brushes may be resting, but they certainly haven’t been forgotten. Art has a way of leading us in unexpected directions, and Dee looks forward to the day when she can once again spend more time exploring the world through paint and pastel.
So, while sculpture remains her main focus, this isn’t goodbye to painting. It’s simply until next time.

Dee’s paintings explore the beauty of the human form through an expressive blend of nature, intimacy and symbolism. Delicate flowers, natural rope and flowing fabrics create contrasts between softness and strength, structure and freedom, revealing different facets of the human experience.
